Trey Whitworth
President, National Security
I serve as President of National Security at r4 Federal, with the mission of enabling defense and intelligence organizations use AI and data to make faster, more informed decisions in complex environments. My focus is translating advanced technology into practical operational advantage for our national security.
I am a retired three-star Vice Admiral in the United States Navy. Before joining r4, I served more than 36 years in the nation’s Intelligence Community as a naval Information Warfare officer, most recently as the Senate-confirmed Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), overseeing global geospatial intelligence operations and AI modernization. My assignments included serving as Intelligence Director for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a combatant command, and multiple special operations forces, with tours spanning combat deployments and senior leadership roles at the National Security Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, and the White House Situation Room.
Aside from military and combat-related decorations, my service has been recognized with the Intelligence Community’s George Washington Spymaster Award, The Cipher Brief’s “Impact Through Government Innovation” Award, and the Washington AI Network’s “Guardian of America” Award.
I earned a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a master’s degree in national security studies from Georgetown University. As a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, I remain active in the national security policy community and am committed to applying emerging technology to our nation’s readiness and deterrence.
